My mentor, Dr. Tom Hill is well known for the mantras he’s developed and often shares them with clients and friends. One of my favorites of his is “We have a moral obligation to become the very best person possible with our God-given talents.” Tom has impressed this directive onto me and others, and I genuinely believe it to be true. I also believe that our business club shares this mission. We’re a community of people working to become the best we can be.
I’ve used Dr. Hill as a mentor and guide, and I’ve worked to develop my own mantras over the years. One of my mantras is “I will match the energy of anyone I work with.” When I originally started saying that, I think I meant that I will work as hard or harder than my clients. It was somewhat of a challenge to myself that I could outwork anyone and always deliver more value than I promised. I also saw it as one of my competitive advantages. It’s backfired a few times. For example, my friend Lou came to me a few years ago with an idea to put on a rock concert for charity. That idea ballooned into a much bigger project known as Rock 4 the Cause. I’ve often used it as an example of hard work because I put a ton of energy into making it happen. Lou and many others in our community were there every step of the way to see it through.
More recently, I’ve taken my mantra to mean that I will match the wavelength of anyone I work with. Redefining my mantra that way has given me the permission to work smarter as opposed to harder. I still like to work hard, but it’s more important to me to find clients, members and friends who resonate on the same wavelength as me and my mission.
The mission of the Saint Louis Business Club is no small task. We hope to gather 144 super stars who operate on the same wavelength or, in other words, share the same core values. We have 12 core values:
- Mutual Respect
- Value Exchange
- Productive Conflict
If these values resonate with you, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re proactively recruiting and quickly growing our community. When everyone brings in positive energy and we’re all on the same wavelength, we can accomplish anything!
